It’s almost been “10,000 days” since the last Tool album came out. Almost nine years, in fact. While Tool fans are used to waiting four to five years for a new album (indeed, four albums in 20 years), nine years is a bit of a stretch.
Tool guitarist Adam Jones revealed in an interview with Yahoo Music that the reason the band had been on hiatus was a lengthy million dollar lawsuit against the band. However, this was all resolved after a new judge, Randy Rhodes (No not the guitarist), took the reins and ruled a settlement in favor of Tool, almost eight years later.
“You know what his name was? Randy Rhodes! I knew the power of metal, and my appreciation of metal was someday going to be like a guardian angel” Adam Jones
On top of that, an unnamed band member had become seriously ill. Jones is quoted as saying:
“When you’re trying to write music and you have that eating away at you – this person you’re married to and you love and hate at the same time has something they’re dealing with that’s out of their control – it’s distracting.”
Now however, with distractions behind them, Tool are ready to work on their new studio album (as of yet unnamed) and have already finished the first track out of eleven. The album is likely to be finished by the end of 2015.
The wait is almost over, a masterpiece is in the works.
