System Of A Down have confirmed releasing a new album after a hiatus lasting nearly a decade.
SOAD’s drummer, John Dolmayan, confirmed in an interview with Kerrang! that the band will be releasing its first album since 2005! It shouldn’t have been that hard to infer that something was being cooked, especially that the band have posted several teasers from band practices on their social media and announced several tour dates. ( Check them out Here).
“I want everyone on board and feeling good about it, that’s what we’re trying to accomplish right now. There’s a tremendous amount of pressure on us, though, because it’s been 11 years – at least 12 by the time it comes out. Our playing ability is better than it ever has been and we’re trying new things. We’re not trying to make ‘Toxicity‘ Part II, just because it was by far our biggest album. This needs to be something for a new generation of SOAD fans, so everyone can see we’re not resting on our laurels.”
So let’s do the math here, last album was 2005, add 12 years, and we might be getting that album in 2017!
But to what extent will this album be a SOAD album? What will it sound like? All we can do is wait until we get a clearer picture of this new album and the band’s possible new direction. After all, a lot of fans frown upon words like “something new”.
