For years, we have seen the Lebanese flag all high and mighty between the crowds. This year, every Lebanese metal-head’s dream came true and this flag will be raised high in Germany as Lebanon makes its debut at Wacken Open Air, the biggest metal festival in the world.
Blaakyum is the oldest active Lebanese metal band, and after winning the recent W:O:A Battle of the Bands 2015 against Turbulence and April, is traveling to Germany today to perform live at the world’s biggest Metal festival, Wacken Open Air.
The band will play in front of thousands on Wednesday the 29th of July. They will play for 20 minutes between 12:40 and 13:00 local time.
This is a big milestone for the 20-year-old band as it marks Lebanon’s debut at Wacken, and will ensure it gains many new fans as more people are exposed to its music, and might even serve to break down Western stereotypes towards Lebanon.
Not only is this the debut of Lebanese music, but also Lebanese journalism, as Metal Bell Magazine will be the first ever Lebanese Magazine to gain a press pass into the front stage pit, and we will be covering the event, so stay tuned!
Even though the Lebanese metal scene is being revived, and has gone a long way, it still needs to grow more. It’s a hard, long process, but with good up and coming acts, a loyal and expanding fanbase, and finally, press coverage, we can make it.
