DREAM THEATER LIVE IN DUBAI A Reality Not A Fiction

Yes, you read it right! Legendary Prog Icons DREAM THEATER live in Dubai on October 6th, 2017! It was a big surprise to all progressive rock/metal fans in the region to receive this news. It was all possible thanks to MAINSTAGE Events, who have put a tremendous effort into turning this dream into reality. (Press release reads below).

Mainstage Events have taken the plunge into making history in this region. Mainstage is well known in Dubai for steadily building the underground music scene week after week and also for bringing international acts such as Tim Ripper Owens (vocalist for Judas Priest, Iced Earth), Hate Eternal and Obscura, Eric Martin (Mr Big), to name a few. This October, Mainstage brings what would be the region’s most anticipated show.

What happens when Mozart meets Metal? You get Dream Theater! Dream Theater, the progressive metal band, will take the stage under Dubai skies on October 6^th at The Dome, Dubai Sports City.

25 years ago, Dream Theater released their iconic Images and Words album that earned them recognition and a place among the ranks of the renowned in music history. Hits such as ‘Pull Me Under’ and ‘Another Day’ received heavy radio play and video rotations on popular music channels back in the day. This album gave impetus to the band following efforts and saw them building a globally widespread loyal fan base. They are currently close to concluding the final leg of their ‘Images and Words & Beyond 25^th Anniversary Tour’ after globetrotting through US, Europe & Asia and now their long overdue entry into the Middle East.

To their credit, this platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated band has released 13 studio albums. Dream Theater has long yearned to break into this region. Now for the first time, Dubai will give Middle East fans the unique opportunity to experience this pioneering band’s multifarious mix of rock maestros performing their hard-hitting tunes from this breakthrough album.

The band’s inception started way back in 1985 when John Petrucci (guitars), John Myung (bass), and Mike Portnoy (drums) formed this band under the name Majesty while studying at Berklee College of Music and later morphing into what would become Dream Theater with the addition of James Labrie (vocals) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards). Discontinuing their education, they pursued the magic of Dream Theater. Once they found their sound, there was no stopping and they played shows relentlessly for more than two successful decades. In 2010, the band added Mike Mangini on drums after the departure of Mike Portnoy.

Each member of the band has collected accolades over the years that include John Petrucci’s recognition of ‘100 greatest metal guitarists’, John Myung and Jordan Rudess voted ‘greatest bass player and keyboardist of all time’ respectively by various magazines, Mike Mangini’s ‘world’s fastest drummer’ title and James Labrie’s remarkable solo albums. Expect ardent fans to sing along with James, play air guitar to Petrucci’s guitar chops, geek in with Jordan’s synth and figure out how Myung’s fingers can play so fast on a bass guitar and air drum to Mangini’s skin slamming! Their concert will spread out for at least two hours and expectant fans can bask in the exceptional performance of their cult classics with technical proficiency that will demand musical mood swings from head banging to fist pumping to singing along to relishing in a highly charged atmosphere. You don’t want to miss a class act when they’re coming to play in Dubai. The band seems to have only gotten better with age and shows no signs of slowing down. The sheer energy of their shows are just worth the watch, coupled with their distinctive sound. This could be the region’s most anticipated show for the world of rock and metal!
